In the vast expanse of North Africa, amidst the turmoil of World War II, an American soldier named Alex Alexander, Sr., finds inspiration from a simple act of generosity—a letter containing a $100 bill sent to a comrade, revealing the lucrative potential of the dry cleaning industry.
This moment ignites a dream in Alex, leading him to embark on a journey of entrepreneurship upon his return to Detroit. With resilience and determination, he pioneers a pick-up and delivery service on foot, eventually expanding his venture into a thriving family business.
Today, under the stewardship of Alex Jr., Alexander’s Dry Cleaners operates out of a modern facility in Allen Park, Michigan, offering eco-friendly services and supporting community initiatives, continuing a legacy built on hard work, innovation, and family values.
Guided by a profound connection to his family’s aspirations, Alex Jr. diligently maintains the ethos of Alexander’s Dry Cleaners, enriching the fabric of the local community through exceptional service and environmental stewardship.

Today, Alex Jr. operates Alexander’s Dry Cleaners out a 4,000 square foot facility in Allen Park Michigan. All of the dry cleaning and laundry is done right on site, including dress shirts and household items using environmentally friendly and state of the art equipment. There’s even a seamstress on staff who can do most any alteration or repair imaginable.
Alexander’s is thankful for having a loyal following of daily walk in customers who have patronized the business for many years. They also proudly clean and repair the uniforms for several High School ROTCs, band and choir programs. Their most notable client is the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.
