Alexander’s Dry Cleaners began as an idea of Alex in the desert of North Africa in 1945. Back then, Alex Alexander, Sr. was a soldier in the US Air Force. The world was at war, and it was always a treat for the troops to receive messages from their loved ones back at home. One of Alex’s combat buddies received a letter from his parents and in that letter was a crisp $100 bill.
Alex was excited at the site of such a large bill. He asked his buddy what his parents did for a living to be able to send $100, which would have been worth a little over $1300 in 1945. His fellow Air Force buddy said “My mom and dad own a dry cleaners and laundry”.
Right then, a light bulb went on for Alex. He had always wanted to work for himself, and when he learned that he could make a good living in the dry cleaning and laundry business, he knew exactly what he was going to do once he was discharged.
Several locations and five children later, Alex Sr. passed away and left the business to his family. While four of his offspring chose different paths, Alex Jr. chose to continue his dad’s legacy by remaining in the dry cleaning business.
